Music
ART 1
The average first year art class is made up of students with varied past art
experiences. Therefore it is the job of the art teacher to start with the
basics with emphasis on introducing the students to as many different types of
art experiences and materials as possible. This is done to familiarize
the students with a solid foundation of the basic design principles, i.e., line
color, shape and form that will be built upon in Art 2.
(Prerequisite: None)
ART
2
This class is designed to develop the skills and interests of the student in
various art media. Students will develop skills using pen & ink, acrylic
paint, charcoal, clay, potter’s wheel, computers, pastels and more.
Students are allowed more freedom of expression and are encouraged to explore
new ideas in their work. The basic design principles are reinforced, and
craftsmanship and tool handling skills are emphasized. (Prerequisite: Art 661 -
Art 1)
ART
3
By the third year of Art, students are beginning to develop their own styles,
likes and dislikes of different art materials. In Art 3 students will be
involved in a more in-depth study of the various materials such as pen &
ink, dyes, clay, inks, charcoal, pastels, computers, acrylic paint and will
further develop their own style of drawing. Students will also learn
about various types of career possibilities in the visual arts.
(Prerequisite: Art 662 - Art 2)
ART 4
This class is for the student who is very serious about studying art. In
this class students will be given more freedom in working with the various art
materials such as pencils, pen & ink, markers, paint, charcoal, clay,
pastels dyes, fibers, sculpture, photography, potter’s wheel, computers
and more.. This class will prepare the senior for art classes on the
college level. (Prerequisite: Art 663 - Art 3)
INDEPENDENT
ART
This class is designed for an individual student to develop individual skills
with specific art materials. Students will meet with the instructor to
set up specific goals and expectations for the course. (Prerequisite: Art
661 - Art 1 and consent of the instructor)
BAND
Students will be involved in the study and performance of music literature from
the past and present, Classical to Pop. Individual direction is strongly
emphasized. Instrumental techniques, phrasing, and solid fundamentals is
priority. Various performances will be scheduled through out the year.
(Prerequisite: Prior knowledge of musical instrument.)
PERCUSSION
ENSEMBLE
“Under construction” is a new ensemble being developed to
capitalize on the ever growing popularity of rhythm. A variety of rhythmic
adaptations based on different cultures. A mixture of instruments including
buckets, cans, pipes, stix, as well as existing drums. This ensemble will be a
hot topic and a hit with those participating.
CHOIR
Instruction in choral and vocal technique is emphasized. Basic music
theory, sight singing and ear training are studied. A wide variety of
music is studied, providing the student with a substantial repertoire.
Students will perform at choral concerts as well as annual IHSA contests and
various music venues. (Prerequisite: None)
